Shrink a PDF for email and online forms

Many email providers cap attachments around 20–25 MB, and government, school, and job portals often limit uploads to a few megabytes. Pick low, medium, or high compression and the tool shows your original and new file size so you know whether it will fit.

Scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs shrink the most. Text-only PDFs are already compact, so savings are smaller.

Which compression level should I use?

Start with low compression to keep text crisp. Medium and high re-render pages as images, which can soften fine print but dramatically cut size for scans. You can also remove metadata such as author and software info for a slightly smaller, more private file.

PDF Compressor FAQ

Scanned PDFs and image-heavy files usually shrink the most because page pictures are recompressed. Text-only or vector PDFs may change very little, and can sometimes end up a similar size after processing.

On medium and high settings, pages are re-rendered as JPEG images inside a new PDF, which can soften photos and scans. Low compression keeps the original page content when possible and mainly re-saves the file structure.

Try medium compression first. For large scans, high compression usually gets there. Check the size shown after compression before downloading.
